What a tournament the US Open was. It had everything you could possibly ever want. It had drama, birdies, eagles, double bogeys and even upset golfers. That seems to be the mission of the USGA every time they set up this event. They definitely succeeded.
Chambers Bay looked like a magnificent piece of property. I love links golf and that course had it nailed down. It is unfortunate that the greens got away from the tournament committee. It appeared that they lost quite a bit of turf and putting on resembled the Price is Right game Plinko more than it did a major championship venue.
Congratulations to Jordan Spieth. What an incredible talent. He made it much closer than it should have with his late double bogey but rebounded beautifully to birdie the 18th. It is unfortunate that Dustin Johnson could not make that comeback birdie putt to force an 18 hole playoff today. I was looking forward to more golf!
We now head into The Open Championship played this year at St. Andrews, the home of golf. After that, it's back to Whistling Straights for the PGA Championship. 3 out of the 4 Major Championship venues will be played on links golf courses this year. That bodes well for Jordan. As he said yesterday, you can't win all 4 without winning the first 2. He's done that and now has an opportunity to set even more records.
I can't wait to see what he does next.
